イギリス及び北部イギリス政府の行進曲。英国擲弾兵とも言われている。

17世紀末頃から歌われ始めていたが当時歌詞が制定されていなかったため各歩兵連隊ごとに歌詞が違っていた。しかし各歩兵連隊に擲弾兵が配備されるようになると現在の歌詞が主流となった。
イギリスでは名誉称号となっており北部イギリス政府も同じような扱いをした。第二次ブリテン戦争でブリテン島をシーランド帝国が統一すると1988年に敵性物禁止法が制定されこの歌を歌う事が禁止されたがその後根強い人気と第三次ブリテン戦争でこの歌をシーランド帝国軍が歌いながら戦っていた事から対象からは外され1997年には禁止が解除された。しかしこの歌を歌いながら連合王国旗を持つ事を禁止されている（そもそも連合王国旗の所持自体を禁止されている）。
現在では薄れつつあるイギリスを感じられる物の一つとして一部の人から重宝されている。
